Invisalign FAQs: What is Invisalign?

Everyone wants a perfect smile, and Invisalign can be an effective, and hassle-free way to get there.

Invisalign aligners are custom-made from soft plastic that moulds to your teeth to progressively straighten them discreetly, comfortably and predictably, without using any metal wires or brackets.

Best of all they are transparent, and in fact, we’ve had many of our clients tell us their friends and family don’t even notice they’re on!

Being able to remove your Invisalign at any time is also a big plus point, and means you get to eat your favourite meals without getting food stuck in your teeth.

Invisalign clear aligners are a highly popular choice for teenagers and adults looking to straighten their teeth as they make the treatment process super-easy and hassle-free. They won’t affect your speech and don’t have sharp edges like some traditional braces, making this a comfortable and reliable solution.

What is Invisalign?

How does Invisalign work?

To create a beautiful smile, Invisalign uses a 3D computer-imaging technology (known as ClinCheck) to plan how your teeth will move in increments from their current to their desired positions.

By creating your 3D smile simulation, we can predict how long your treatment time will take. The average at our clinic is 6 to 12 months but this can vary depending on your individual needs. This makes the results very predictable, as opposed to the traditional braces or clear aligners from other brands.

What Are The Steps Involved With Getting Invisalign

Step 1 – Initial Consultation: The first step is to schedule a consultation with the team at Blossom Dental Care to discuss your goals and expectations for the treatment. During this consultation, you will have a chance to meet with a dentist or orthodontist who will evaluate your teeth and determine if Invisalign is right for you.

Step 2 – Treatment Plan: If Invisalign is deemed appropriate for you, the dentist will create a custom treatment plan using 3D imaging technology to create a set of aligners that will gradually shift your teeth into their desired position. The aligners will be designed to fit your teeth perfectly and be comfortable to wear.

Step 3 – Aligner Fitting: Once your custom aligners are ready, you will come back to Blossom Dental Care to have them fitted. The dentist will check the fit of the aligners and make any necessary adjustments to ensure they fit comfortably.

Step 4 – Wear Your Aligners: You will wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat and brush your teeth. Every one to two weeks, you will switch to a new set of aligners that will continue to shift your teeth into their desired position.

Step 5 – Check-Ups: Every six to eight weeks, you will come back to Blossom Dental Care for a check-up to make sure your treatment is progressing as planned. During these check-ups, the dentist will evaluate your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. We also understand that some people are busy with their day-to-day lives, so thanks to our exciting new smartphone-based ‘Dental Monitoring’ solution, we can check up on the progress of your smile remotely, without the need for you to come into the clinic. This means fewer visits to the practice, especially helpful if you live outside of York.

Step 6 – Finishing Treatment: Once your treatment is complete, the dentist will evaluate your teeth to determine if any additional steps are needed to achieve your desired results. If no further treatment is necessary, you will be given a retainer to wear at night to maintain your new smile.

Step 7 – Post-Treatment Care: After your treatment is complete, it is important to continue practising good oral hygiene and visit the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings to maintain your new smile. To also help keep your new smile in perfect shape, you will need to wear retainers at night for six months, and then usually 3 nights a week for as long as you want your teeth to remain straight.

Can anyone get Invisalign?

Because Invisalign’s clear aligners are custom-made to fit your mouth, they are suitable for most people, both adults and teenagers. You can even undergo Invisalign treatment if you have had other dental work done, such as a dental implant. Although the implant itself won’t move, as long as it is placed in the correct position, to begin with, you can still have orthodontic treatment to straighten the surrounding teeth, resulting in a more aligned smile.
