Q. How old does my child need to be to visit the toothbrush academy?
The ideal age for a tooth academy student is 1-5 years old.
-
Q. What sort of toothbrush should a toddler use?
A soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head and a large handle that is easy for little hands to grip is ideal. Toothbrushes with cartoon characters and bright colours may be more appealing to toddlers, making it easier to get them excited about brushing their teeth.
-
Q. How much toothpaste should my child use?
A small pea-sized amount of toothpaste is suitable for children between the ages of 3 to 6 years old. For children under 3 years old, parents should use a smear of toothpaste about the size of a grain of rice. It is important to supervise your child while they brush their teeth and ensure that they spit out the toothpaste after brushing.
-
Q. When do children begin to use adult toothpaste?
Generally, children can start using adult toothpaste when they are around the age of six, as this is when their permanent teeth start to emerge. Prior to this age, children should use toothpaste that is specifically formulated for their age.
-
Q. Why does my child need to brush their teeth?
Poor dental hygiene can lead to serious health problems such as gum disease, cavities, and even heart disease. Helping your child to brush their teeth correctly not only helps to prevent these health issues but also sets them up for a lifetime of good oral hygiene.
-
Q. How early can kids get tooth decay?
Tooth decay can occur as soon as the first baby tooth erupts, which is typically around 6 months of age. The risk of tooth decay increases as children consume sugary foods and drinks. Failure to properly brush teeth increases that risk further.
It’s important to ensure that your child understands how to maintain excellent oral health from a young age in order to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems.
-
Q. What happens if my toddler has tooth decay?
If you suspect that your child has tooth decay, it is important to book a consultation as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the decay, the dentist may recommend a filling, or even need to extract the affected tooth. If the decay is caught early enough, your child may be able to avoid more invasive procedures and simply receive a fluoride treatment with oral hygiene advice.
