Orthodontics without obvious braces – A subtle way to straighten teeth in York.

If you live in York and you think your smile would benefit from having straighter teeth, look no further. Blossom Dental Practice is a leading Invisalign clear braces provider in the area. As well as giving you precise and effective orthodontic treatment, we can do it so subtly  that your friends and colleagues may be completely unaware  you’re wearing an alignment device!

Invisalign is a pioneering brand that specialises in discreet, orthodontic treatment, but this is a very modern development in the history of braces. Braces weren’t always so discreet. When the first braces were introduced by Pierre Fauchard in 1728, they consisted of a very prominent flat strip of metal, which was attached to the teeth with threads. Brackets didn’t make an appearance in public consciousness until 1915 and these were no more discreet. Metal train tracks are still widely used. It’s obvious why the technology behind Invisalign’s almost invisible braces is rapidly growing in popularity.

How do Invisalign braces work?

Instead of having metal or ceramic brackets bonded to your teeth, Invisalign braces consist of a removable thermoplastic retainer-style tray that fits snuggly over the teeth and is custom made to fit your teeth and correct your individual alignment issues. Whether you need to correct your bite, straighten crooked teeth or have less gaps, the Invisalign process will straighten your teeth gently, firmly and precisely to arrange them in a more desirable position and give you a transformed smile.

During your consultation with your skilled orthodontist here at Blossom Dental, you will have your alignment problems assessed with a view to correcting them. Impressions of your mouth and photos of your teeth will be taken and you will be shown the journey your teeth will take on the computer.

Once the moulds have been sent to Invisalign and your trays have been created, it’ll be time for your first fitting. You’ll wear this first tray for a number of weeks, until your teeth have reached the required positioning to begin your second tray. Then you will return to your orthodontist for a second fitting. Treatment takes 12 months on average, during which time you will be fitted with a series of different trays.

This cutting edge treatment was developed when a Stamford university graduate discovered that the retainer he was wearing was preventing his teeth from moving out of their positions.
