Our dental implant placement process

We can’t praise dental implants enough. They’re the most effective solution to missing teeth in modern dentistry, and they’ve been developed over a long part of history. They restore the look, feel, and function of your mouth effortlessly, letting you get on with your business unencumbered and confident. We understand that dental implant placement can seem a little daunting, especially if you’re imagining an intimidating operating theatre. It’s actually a lot more simple and comfortable than you may think, and it comes in a few steps, so you’re not overwhelmed. There is how we place dental implants in York.

Step 1: Consultation

Our first step is always a consultation. We’d never commit to something that we weren’t sure of and felt secure in, so we’d never expect our patients to either. At your initial consultation, you can ask us any questions you have about the dental implant placement process and find out all of the information you need to make the best decision for you. We’ll take a look you’re your medical history, examine your teeth, and take x-rays, models, and photos of your teeth to ensure the best treatment outcome. We use these to work out the best position for your proposed implant, how many implants we recommend, and assess the amount of bone available to provide a root.

Step 2: Dental implant placement

This might be the part you’ve been dreading – how we actually place the implants in your jaw. Well, it’s a lot more manageable and simple than you think. This essentially comes in 2 main parts: the root, and the crown. The root is made of titanium due to its sturdiness and ability to attract the bone to heal around it, and this is placed under local anaesthetic in your gum and jawbone. A screw is then inserted into this drilled hole to complete the root, and this is left to heal for 3-6 months.

Step 3: Healing and crown placement

We let the root heal for 3-6 months before we proceed to give it chance to properly integrate into the jawbone. When we’re happy with how this first part of placement has healed, we take impressions to craft your brand-new crown. We’ll then book another appointment for you to come and see us to place your newly created crown that is colour-matched and shaped to match your natural teeth. Other than follow-up appointments to check in on your new tooth replacement, your dental implant journey is hereby complete with the fitting of the crown!

We’re so confident in our ability and expertise in dental implant placement that we extend a 10-year guarantee to of our patients. All we ask in return for this is that our patients attend a minimum of two hygiene sessions each year after the completion of treatment and follow our specially devised maintenance programme. With proper cleaning and attention, you could have your dental implants for years upon years while also maintaining excellent dental health for your natural teeth and gums.
