Preventive hygiene therapy at Blossom Dental Care & Implant Studio York

Our dental hygienists at our York practice, Teresa, Rebecca and Elizabeth, are specially trained to prevent gum disease and keep your teeth and gums healthy. They also offer advice on dental home care and brushing, providing you with the tools you need to ensure your healthy smile lasts well into old age. Hygienists are educated alongside dentists for most of their training and are experts in their field. Hygiene therapy helps to:

  • Prevent gum disease and tooth decay
  • Keep your breath fresh and your teeth and gums healthy
  • Reduce stains, receding gums, bleeding gums and sensitive teeth
  • Reduce your risk of serious medical conditions as gum disease has been linked to arthritis, heart disease, stokes, diabetes and pregnancy complications

Air polishing for extra sparkle

Air polishing is a pain-free treatment that helps your smile to regain its brightness and shine while preventing tooth decay and gum disease. It uses water, air and a fine, flavoured powder to gently and naturally remove plaque and stubborn stains from your teeth. This treatment is ideal for painlessly ridding teeth of the discolouration caused by tea, coffee, red wine and nicotine and will return them to their spotlessly clean, natural colour. It is also strongly recommended before teeth whitening, as it will help improve the final result.

  • Air polishing is comfortable, quick and comes in a range of flavours
  • Leaves the teeth feeling clean and sparkling, and the mouth feeling wonderfully fresh
  • Treatment can remove deep-seated stains*
  • Improves gum health by removing plaque and reducing gum disease
  • An ideal treatment before teeth whitening for maximum results

Frequently asked questions

About hygiene care at Blossom Dental Care & Implant Studio

  1. How often do I need a hygiene appointment?

This depends on your individual needs.

  2. How much time does a hygiene appointment take?

Plan to be with us for around 30 minutes to allow our hygiene team plenty of time for a thorough clean.

  3. Why are hygiene appointments so important?

At Blossom Dental Care & Implant Studio, York, we believe that thorough dental hygiene is the cornerstone of good oral health. Regular visits to our hygienists ensure that plaque is removed and signs of gum disease and other dental problems are picked up earlier rather than later. Our expert hygienists also provide professional advice on caring for your teeth and gums at home.

  4. Will my gums bleed?

Gums bleed when bacteria accumulates around teeth and causes infection. The body’s natural response is to send more blood to the area to fight the infection hence bleeding when you brush your teeth. Although bleeding from the gums is relatively common that doesn’t mean it’s not important to speak to a dental professional about it. If your gums bleed during a hygiene appointment or when brushing at home it’s a sign of infection that needs to be treated. Our hygienists will advise on this during your appointment.

  5. What if I feel nervous about visiting the hygienist?

Our hygienists have lots of experience in treating nervous patients and will do everything they can to put you at ease. They have perfected extremely gentle techniques in plaque removal and teeth and gum cleaning.
